In the beginning of this year I rebranded and used the very popular bottle brush tree as an inspiration for my new brand. One afternoon in March I went out to our garden and just snapped some quick images that I could send to my graphic designer to use as a starting point to illustrate my watermarks. I recall that I used a few photos when I launched my new website, but for some reason these gorgeous images were archived and went into the black hole of my external hard drive.
I just had to share these gorgeous and dainty bottle brush images. The bottlebrush tree is a very popular tree that is seen in almost every second garden in South Africa. To me it represents a lot of childhood memories. I was a creative child with loads of imaginary friends. I made up games with extensive background stories and orchestrated a lot of home productions. I think back at a happy time where a bottlebrush dubbed as a magic wand, a paint brush, a sword or simply a precious treasure that must be cherished. Looking at how the light falls on these dainty, yet quirky flowers I can see why I was so enchanted by them. I’m pretty convinced that at the tender age of 5 I was already able to view the world and everything around me in vivid colours and beautiful flickering bokeh in the background. It is only now that I finally can show people what I have always seen (and what I will continue to see) in ordinary things.
My Lensbaby really helped me to make these images pop with extra bokeh and a much more accentuated sweet spot. This truly is my favourite rainy day lens to expand my creativity and fall in love with photography all over again.
And don’t you just love how beautiful these images looks with their bespoke hand drawn watermarks? Thanks again to Creatives on Click for a brand that makes me fall in love with it more and more every day!
